Energy efficiency loans bill approved

May 2nd, 2011

Senate Bill 32, by Sen. Mike Johnston, D-Denver, creating a loan program for homeowners wanting to install energy-efficient improvements like new windows, doors and insulation passed on a party-line vote today.  The loans would be facilitated by public utilities like Xcel Energy as well as  banks and consumers would benefit from eased borrowing criteria that would extend credit to those who may not otherwise qualify.

The measure was first heard Thursday and was laid over for further amendments. After this morning’s vote by the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Energy Committee, the bill is now headed to the Senate Appropriations Committee before it can be heard by the full Senate.
